Smaart Online Lab: Timing
This is a Level 2 session, hosted by Rational Acoustics and taught by Jamie Anderson.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Timing: A common system alignment task where Smaart is used to adjust the relative timing between two signals/sources. This could be between two drivers in a multi-way loudspeaker or two speakers in a multi-speaker or multi-array system. In each case, due of the nature of variance of timing vs position in the 3-dimensional space in which our systems exist, and the variance in time arrival vs frequency due to phase shift in each of our individual systems, there is no one timing (delay setting) that is right for all positions and frequencies. Timing points and frequencies are often some of the most important decisions an engineer will make during system alignment. This session will discuss those decisions and examine in detail the mechanics of measuring and adjusting system timing once those alignment decisions have been made.

This session requires Smaart Operator Level I certification and, specifically, a comfort level with reading phase response data and making impulse response measurements. Smaart Operator Fundamentals Online (SOFO) webinars 8, 10, and 11 are suggested for review on these subjects.

ABOUT SMAART ONLINE LAB SESSIONS

Smaart Online Lab Sessions are in-depth presentations on select topics building upon the foundation established from the Smaart Operator Fundamentals course content. These sessions include demonstrations and in-depth discussions on the chosen topic. Each session will run between 90 minutes and 2 hours. Attendance is limited to a maximum of 8 attendees to enhance direct student-instructor interaction.

Smaart Online Lab Sessions are conducted via Zoom. Registered attendees will be emailed a session link and password, along with instructions for joining the session, approximately 48 hours prior to the session start time. Please be sure your computer and internet connection meet Zoom’s minimum system requirements and that your webcam and microphone are working prior to joining the session. Refunds will not be issued for missed sessions due to attendee computer problems.

Smaart Online Lab Sessions are conducted live, and the sessions will not be archived for later viewing. Please be sure you are available to attend the session in-person prior to registering.
