Mixing Within the Limit: SPL Applications for Front of House Engineers (with special guests Ken “Pooch” Van Druten, Jim Yakabuski and Chris Rabold).

This is a Level 2 session, hosted by Rational Acoustics and taught by Michael Lawrence with special guests Ken “Pooch” Van Druten, Jim Yakabuski and Chris Rabold.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

This session is a crash course in SPL techniques for FOH mix engineers. After learning the basics of SPL, we’ll take a tour through Smaart’s powerful SPL toolset. Then we’ll cover advanced applications that FOH mixers can use to closely examine their own mixes and achieve full, impactful, dynamic mixes even when bound by level restrictions. Finally, veteran FOH mixers Ken “Pooch” Van Druten (Iron Maiden, Linkin Park, Katy Perry), Jim Yakabuski (Peter Frampton, Van Halen, Journey) and Chris Rabold (Bruno Mars, Kenny Chesney) will lead an open discussion on how they apply these techniques in their mixing.

ABOUT SMAART ONLINE LAB SESSIONS

Smaart Online Lab Sessions are in-depth presentations on select topics building upon the foundation established from the Smaart Operator Fundamentals course content. These sessions include demonstrations and in-depth discussions on the chosen topic. Each session will run between 90 minutes and 2 hours. Attendance is limited to a maximum of 8 attendees to enhance direct student-instructor interaction.

Smaart Online Lab Sessions are conducted via Zoom. Registered attendees will be emailed a session link and password, along with instructions for joining the session, approximately 48 hours prior to the session start time. Please be sure your computer and internet connection meet Zoom’s minimum system requirements and that your webcam and microphone are working prior to joining the session. Refunds will not be issued for missed sessions due to attendee computer problems.

Smaart Online Lab Sessions are conducted live, and the sessions will not be archived for later viewing. Please be sure you are available to attend the session in-person prior to registering.
