Smaart Online Lab: System Alignment Panel Discussion
This is a Level 2 session, hosted by Rational Acoustics and led by Jamie Anderson with guest panelists James Woods (Woods Engineering), Arthur Skudra (Sightsound Consulting), Andy Potvin (Dolby), Dustin Hudson (Dolby), and Jeremy Rynders (Disney).

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Smaart is a computer program and, as the user, YOU ultimately are the analyzer and the one who makes decisions based on the data Smaart provides. A frequent request in Smaart trainings is to discuss alignment methodologies—topics ranging from where to start the alignment process, where to place measurement microphones, how to set timing for imaging, how to align subs to mains, etc. Often the challenge is there is rarely one definitive correct answer, but a variety of application-dependent recommendations.

Another variable is the broad range of sound system applications with differing alignment goals. For example, the goals for aligning a system for a rock show in an arena may be vastly different from goals for aligning an installed sound system for a cinema, or an airport announce system, or any number of other applications. While many Smaart users share commonalities in how they align systems, within the finer detail, their individual approaches can be unique and may have evolved from their own specific experiences and the types of systems they are aligning.

These sessions will explore the alignment process and feature a panel of guest system engineers discussing their individual workflows and providing insights into their methods for system alignment within different applications.

Guest panelists for this session are James Woods (Woods Engineering), Arthur Skudra (Sightsound Consulting), Andy Potvin (Dolby), Dustin Hudson (Dolby), and Jeremy Rynders (Disney).
